ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that as many as 97 people have died and 101 have been injured across Pakistan due to recent severe rains.
As per a situation report issued by the NDMA, the province of Balochistan continued to be the most affected, with 49 people dying and 48 others being hurt as a result of the ongoing monsoon downpour that began on Monday. A total of 17 persons were dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, followed by 11 in Sindh, 10 in the north of Gilgit Baltistan, and 10 more in other regions of the nation.
Flash floods across the nation washed away two roads, five bridges, and five stores, while 226 homes were totally damaged and 481 others only partially so, it claimed. 1,326 cattle died in various situations around the nation, the NDMA said.
Most of the deaths and injuries occurred due to electrocution, roof collapse, and flash floods caused by blockages of large water drainages in urban areas.
Sherry Rehman, the minister of climate change, stated at a press conference earlier this week that the country has experienced 87% more rain than usual during monsoon season.
