Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Maharashtra's Marathwada region, leading to the relocation of more than 200 people and the rescue of nearly 90 others from flood-affected areas in Hingoli district. In the neighboring Nanded district, rain has caused severe damage to crops across over 2 lakh hectares of land.

Since Sunday, the Marathwada region, which includes eight districts, has been experiencing relentless rainfall. The downpours have claimed at least four lives due to rain-related incidents. According to officials, 45 revenue circles in Nanded have been severely impacted.

The torrential rains have affected over 2 lakh hectares of farmland and led to the death of 25 animals. Key areas such as Nanded city, Ardhapur, Hadgaon, Degloor, Mudkhed, Kandhar, Loha, and Naigaon have reported significant crop damage. A survey to assess the full extent of the damage will be conducted once the rains cease, said Nanded collector Abhijit Raut.

On Monday, some revenue circles in Nanded, including Bharad, Malegaon, and Dabhad, received 170 mm of rain within 12 hours. Low-lying areas in Nanded city were inundated, and in the Panchavati Sai Baba Kaman area, water reached up to the second floor of a building, requiring the rescue of two residents.

To manage the excess water from the catchment areas, several dams in Nanded were opened on Monday. The Vishnupuri dam released water through 14 gates, and nine out of 15 gates of the Upper Manar project were opened, discharging excess water into the Godavari and Manar rivers.

In Hingoli district, 218 residents were relocated and 87 were rescued on Monday. Tragically, two people, including a 10-year-old child, drowned in Sarangwadi village. Another individual from Tembhurni in Vasmat tehsil drowned, and his body was recovered later in the evening.

All 30 revenue circles in Hingoli experienced heavy rainfall on Monday, with the district recording an average of 141.70 mm of rain. The floods led to the loss of 77 cowsheds. A crop loss survey in Hingoli will be conducted this week, according to district collector Abhinav Goel. The district guardian minister Abdul Sattar visited the affected villages, including Sodegaon, Dongargaon Pul, and Sawarkheda, to assess the damage.

The Marathwada region's 11 revenue circles across four districts have been heavily impacted. Sawaladbara circle in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar received the highest rainfall of 101.50 mm on Monday, while other circles recorded over 65 mm of rain. In Nanded, Ardhapur circle saw 94.50 mm of rain, followed by Pimparkhed with 69.50 mm and Jaldhara with 65.50 mm. Hingoli's Amba and Kurunda circles each recorded 92 mm of rain, and Adgaon circle in Parbhani's Jintur received 77.50 mm.
