Lucknow: Three CRPF personnel died in a major mishap on Thursday night on the highway in the Khajaula chowki area under the Mundherwa police station of Basti in Uttar Pradesh. While one was seriously injured. He has been admitted to the district hospital Basti and other officials including Superintendent of Police Ashish Srivastava reached the spot.

According to the police, the jawans of the C-112 company of the CRPF from Chhattisgarh in Basti district were on duty to vote in the Kaptanganj assembly. At around 12:20 am on Thursday night, an empty truck coming from Gorakhpur towards Basti and a Bolero going towards Gorakhpur from Basti collided head-on near Nariayonv village under Khajaula chowki. The other motorists who were passing by immediately reported it to the police.

The police of the Khajaula outpost who rushed to the spot were shocked to see the horrific scenes. Four CRPF personnel were present in the Bolero, three of whom died on the spot. The driver was alive. He was sent to the district hospital through a 108 ambulance. On getting information, the superintendent of police Ashish Srivastava and other officials reached out. The dead and the injured were not identified until late in the night. At the same time, the driver left the truck and fled. The police have reported the incident to the CRPF's higher authorities.
