During Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha Election 2024, voting took place in West Bengal for the seats of Darjeeling, Raiganj, and Balurghat. Reports of violence have emerged from Moyna in East Medinipur district, where an 18-year-old BJP activist, Dinobondhu Midya, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. His body was discovered hanging early Friday morning at a betel leaf storehouse, sparking outrage and protests from local residents who suspect foul play.

The family of the deceased alleges that Midya was murdered and then his body was staged to look like a suicide. They claim he left his house on Thursday evening with his mobile phone, which was later found switched off, and he did not return home. After a search, the family discovered his body.

The local BJP leadership has accused Trinamool Congress-backed goons of being involved in the tragic incident. Trinamool Congress has denied the accusations, while the police have opened an investigation into the matter. The incident has heightened tensions in the region, adding complexity to the ongoing election process in the state.
