Tragic Landslide in Uttarakhand Claims Lives of Four Nepali Labourers

Uttarakhand: In a heartbreaking incident, four Nepali labourers lost their lives due to a landslide in Phata village, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, on Friday. The landslide, triggered by intense rainfall, buried the workers under heavy debris.

The landslide struck during the night, resulting in the workers being trapped under a significant amount of debris.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly intervened and successfully retrieved the bodies from the rubble. According to Rudraprayag Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar, authorities received reports of the disaster near a local rainwater pond, known as ‘khat gadera’, at around 1:20 am. A rescue team was promptly dispatched to the scene to manage the situation.

The area had experienced heavy rains on Thursday night, which contributed to the landslide. The recovery operation was challenging due to the volume of debris and the remote location of the incident.

According to officials, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully recovered the bodies from the landslide wreckage. Rudraprayag Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar confirmed that the authorities were alerted about the landslide near a rainwater pond, known locally as ‘khat gadera’, at approximately 1:20 am. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“All four individuals trapped in the landslide were found deceased by the rescue teams,” Rajwar said adding that the victims—Tul Bahadur, Purna Nepali, Kishna Parihar, and Chiku Bura—were all Nepali nationals, and their bodies are being transported to Rudraprayag by the District Disaster Rescue Force (DDRF).

Heavy rains had impacted the region on Thursday night, contributing to the tragic event.
