Bangalore: On 28th July, a heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Devangere, Karnataka, as an intimate video of a college couple went viral on social media. Upon learning about the video, the girl, who was a second-year student at First Grade Government College, succumbed to distress and committed suicide. Tragically, following her suicide, the boy, also a second-year student at the same college, took his own life on Friday night. The incident has left the families and the community in shock and grief.

It is reported that the couple was in a relationship, and the video was allegedly recorded by an unknown person approximately two months ago while they were sharing private moments on the terrace of the college building. In the wake of these heartbreaking suicides, the parents of both students have filed separate complaints with the police, seeking justice and accountability for the circulation of the video on social media. District Superintendent of Police Dr K Arun has assured the families and the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to identify and apprehend the culprit responsible for recording and disseminating the video.

The incident has shed light on the serious consequences of cyberbullying and invasion of privacy, prompting authorities to take swift action in tracing the individuals responsible for the tragic outcome.

Udupi Secret Video Case: The Devangere incident follows a recent case in Udupi, Karnataka, where three girl students were accused of recording private videos of their fellow students in the washroom of Netra Jyothi College. Initially downplayed as a "prank" by the college administration and some media outlets, public pressure led to the registration of FIRs and the subsequent arrest of the accused girls. Although the court granted bail to the accused, the investigation into the Udupi case is ongoing.

The incidents in both Devangere and Udupi serve as a stark reminder of the need for robust measures to protect the privacy and dignity of individuals, especially in educational institutions, and to address the growing concerns of cyberbullying and misuse of technology.
