New Delhi: Millions of people travel from one place to another every day with the help of Indian Railways. Two years ago, due to the Corona epidemic, there was some decrease in the number of passengers travelling by train, but now the railways have completely returned to track. However, due to this, some rules were definitely changed. Â
Amidst the changed rules, a claim is also being made that now children below 5 years of age will also have train tickets. At the same time, it has also been reported in a report that the fare of the train ticket of a one-year-old child was also charged. It may be noted that till now children under 5 years of age did not have train tickets. PIB Fact Check has termed this viral claim as 'misleading'.

It is being claimed through some media reports that the IRCTC portal has updated the ticket booking rules, under which will now have to spend full money to buy train tickets for children below 5 years of age. For this, Indian Railways and IRCTC have added the option of infant seats at the time of online booking. However, the report also clarified that as per circular no 12 issued by Indian Railways dated 06.03.2020, children below 5 years of age do not require a reservation for travel and can board the train without a ticket. However, if a berth is required, the full adult fare has to be paid by booking the ticket. Apart from this, information has also been given in a report about getting a train ticket for a one-year-old child. The same PIB Fact Check has denied the fact that children below 5 years of age have to get train tickets. Describing the report as 'Misleading', tweeted, "A report claims that passengers of Indian Railways will have to take full tickets for children below the age of five years. PIB Fact Check said that buying train tickets for children below the age of 5 years is a completely optional facility. If no berth is booked, then children below 5 years of age will be allowed to travel free of cost.''
