Tree Collapse: One student killed and 12 injured in Chandigarh

In Chandigarh’s sector 9, One student  died and 20 were injured on Friday. The incident took place in Carmel Convent School.  After receiving the information, medical professionals and police officers rushed to the scene.

Medical teams and police rushed to the spot. A team of doctors from Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has also been called. The students have been shifted to a hospital. Two of the injured are being treated in a hospital for critical injuries. After hearing this news official team and many parents reached the place.

Nitin Yadav, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration said we have given orders for a probe to find out the cause of the accident. Deputy Commissioner reached the spot and said the administration had ordered an inquiry. The tree that fell is a heritage tree said to be around 250 years old.

Eleven students who have suffered minor injuries are being treated at GMSH-16 under the supervision of Director, Health Services, and will be discharged after medical examination and  woman attendant has been shifted to the PGI from GMSH-16 and are under continuous monitoring there.

A committee of the officials has been constituted to visit the schools and other education institutes and inspect the trees in and around the premises to avoid any such incident in the future.
