NEW DELHI: Following Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha, the Trinamool Congress is expected to join the opposition meeting called by the Leader of the opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge in his chamber today, March 27. Post the opposition meeting, the Congress Parliament members will be assembling to devise a strategy for the House.
Manickam Tagore, a Tamil Nadu-based Lok Sabha legislator for the Congress, warned on Sunday that he would leave his position after "his boss Rahul Gandhi was disqualified."
"Rahul Gandhi, my leader, was expelled from the Lok Sabha by the Honorable Speaker. On Friday, I said goodbye to him just before he was disqualified. I was given the chance to run for the Lok Sabha in 2009 by Rahul Gandhi, but he won't be there. Why must I be present? I'm hurt by the injustice done to him, "Tagore, a representative for Tamil Nadu's Virudhnagar district, posted something on Twitter.
Tagore is said to be a close companion of Rahul Gandhi. He is the party-in charge of Goa. Following his conviction in a defamation lawsuit by a Gujarati court, Rahul Gandhi was stripped of his right to vote in the Lok Sabha.
Rahul Gandhi was found guilty on March 23 in a criminal defamation action brought against him for allegedly making a joke about the "Modi surname" in 2019.
Earlier this month, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee had accused the Congress-Left combine of having an 'immoral alliance' with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and said that her party will not enter into any partnership with the two to fight for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
