Kolkata: West Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) staged protests, held rallies and organized meetings in various places in West Bengal against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam. The TMC leadership has announced that their party organized a public demonstration on September 7 against the splitting politics of the NRC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

TMC National General Secretary Subrata Bakshi said that more than 40 protest rallies were held in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, and Nukkad meetings were held.
