AGARTALA:: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha was re-elected from the Town Bordowali seat for the second consecutive time after defeating his nearest Congress opponent Ashish Kumar Saha by a margin of 1,257 votes.
Manik Saha was earlier elected to the state Assembly in the by-poll held in June 2022 by defeating Ashish Kumar Saha with a margin of 6,104 votes.

The 70-year-old BJP leader, who for a brief time served as the party's state unit head and a Rajya Sabha member, took office as chief minister on May 15 of last year, one day after Biplab Kumar Deb had resigned from the position at the request of the BJP's top officials.

Manik Saha is expected to serve as Chief Minister of the second BJP government, said BJP officials. The first BJP government was toppled by the CPI(M)-led Left Front in the 2018 Assembly elections, ending a 25-year rule (1993-2018).

Along with Saha, other incumbent members of the state Assembly include Ratan Lal Nath, the minister of education, from the Mohanpur seat; Pranajit Singha Roy, from the Radhakishorepur seat; Manoj Kanti Deb, the minister of food and civil supplies, from the Kamalpur seat; and Biswa Bandhu Sen, the deputy speaker of the Tripura Assembly, from the Dharmanagar seat.

Looking at  Nagaland Poll, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party  have improved their tally from last time and are currently leading in 36 seats. The state also has got a woman MLA - a first since Independence.
