KOLKATA: In yet another instance of intolerance and online trolling, stand-up comedian and Kolkata RJ Mir Afsar Ali was criticised after he posted a picture of his family celebrating Christmas.

This is the third instance within span of 10 days when celebrities faced the wrath of social media trolls. Few days back, actors Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and cricketer Mohammad Shami were targeted by the group of social media moral policing.

Ali has posted his picture on a Facebook celebrating Christmas with his family members. This unleashed a volley of abuses and sermons for the RJ.

He was questioned, criticised and trolled over his choice to celebrate a festival which is not acknowledged by Islamic traditions. He was also lectured by some telling him that his wife and daughter should dress as per Islamic traditions.

Taking on his trolls, Mir questioned the intolerance and hit back at those targeting him and his family. In a Facebook post, he spoke about understanding and compassion towards people of all faiths and urged all to be more inclusive and accommodative.

“Friends, it is a strange world indeed and we are living in stranger times and maybe the people who have commented are from a neighbour country, but believe me, there are truly no boundaries/borders for religious fanatics. This is a worrying trend all over the world,” RJ Mir wrote on Facebook.
