Minister Harish Rao broke down on BJP for paddy procurement

Finance Minister T Harish Rao attacked the centre on Friday for imposing restrictions on paddy procurement. He said the BJP had double standards. Highlighting the contradictions in the BJP stand, Harish Rao pointed out, "The Centre is refusing to buy the state's procurement of paddy at a rate higher than the minimum support price (MSP), union minister G. Kishan Reddy and other BJP leaders demanded that the state government give incentive to good rice varieties".

Based on the centre letter, The Minister mocked Kishan Reddy for double standards. The Centre issued a letter imposing restrictions on purchase of paddy and its prices, and secondly, a minister at the Centre was trying to blame the state government for it, he said. He believed that the total paddy yield in the current forest season was about 87.84 lakh tonnes and the total consumption in the state was only 26 lakh tonnes.

However, it should be noted that the Centre has already announced the selling price (MSP) of rice. The minimum support price (MSP) is Rs 1,888 per quintal of paddy as per the announced centre price. While the state government is willing to pay more than, the Centre, through the Food Corporation of India, has issued guidelines to limit the payment of additional prices other than MSP. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao recently announced that the state government was ready to pay more than MSP for their paddy crop. He assured that the state government would prepare an action plan to ensure the prices of compensation to farmers despite the centre's restrictions. The telangana state forest development corporation chairman Vantheru Pratap Reddy, elected representatives and district officials were present.
