HYDERABAD: A key meeting of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) commenced on Wednesday to take a decision on converting itself into a national party, source said.

Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) was chairing the extended general body meeting of the party at its headquarters Telangana Bhavan.

State ministers, MPs, state legislators, and other leaders are among the dignitaries at the meeting, and they will adopt a resolution renaming TRS as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). H. D. Kumaraswamy, a former chief minister of Karnataka and a leader of the Janata Dal(S), Tholkappiyan Thirumavalavan, president of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and other leaders of the two parties  are also being attended the meeting at KCR's invitation.

There were 283 delegates in all, including ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, members of the party executive committee, chairs of the Zilla Parishad, district party presidents, and chairpersons of companies. KCR will probably discuss the goals and objectives of launching the national party during the meeting. In order to express their support, leaders of the JD (S) and VCK are also likely to speak at the meeting.

After the resolution has been approved, KCR will host a lunch for the guests. He will publicly launch the new political organisation at a news conference he is expected to give in the evening. A festive atmosphere and excitement filled with Telangana Bhavan.  Around the TRS offices and other locations in the city, flexis, banners, and posters praising KCR's debut into national politics have been erected. Leaders and supporters of the TRS prayed specifically on the occasion of Dussehra for the success of BRS in Hyderabad and other regions of the state.

The Election Commission of India will receive the resolution from the meeting, along with the signatures of the attendees, on Thursday in order to register the party. The party is probably going to keep its pink colour and car-shaped electoral symbol.

The pink party will put out its candidate as BRS' nominee for the by-election to the Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana after gaining approval from the Election Commission. October 14 is the last day to submit nominations.
On Wednesday, KCR is also likely to nominate a TRS candidate for the by-election. While KCR is likely to lead the national party, his cabinet minister son K. T. Rama Rao, who presently serves as TRS' working president, is anticipated to be named leader of the BRS' Telangana chapter.

K. Keshava Rao, a senior politician and Rajya Sabha member who serves as the TRS's general secretary, is most likely to serve as the new party's national general secretary. KCR launched TRS in 2001 to resurrect the fight for Telangana to become a separate state. He set up  the first government in the new state in 2018 after winning the battle in 2014 after a 13-year struggle.
