Recently the life threatening tsunami alert issued Saturday in response to a volcano explosion in Tonga has been lifted across California, including the San Francisco Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service.

For the Bay Area, the advisory has been cancelled for the state. According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center policy, tsunami alerts can be cancelled if wave heights remain below 0.3 metres for three hours. The weather service advised citizens to be cautious along the coast "as residual strong currents are anticipated to occur," according to California officials.

According to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday, tsunami warnings were also withdrawn in nations throughout the Pacific Rim, with none in force on the US Tsunami Warning System map as of Sunday morning.
