Ankara: A Turkish court has reduced the life sentence of Berick Erkol, a Muslim youth, to 18 years and 4 months in prison for stabbing his wife to death. According to Dogan news agency, the Turkish court on Tuesday (May 25, 2021) gave its verdict in the case on the basis of "unjust provocation" and "good behaviour" to the convict. The incident took place at Central Anatolian, Konya, where convict Bekir Erkol killed his 37-year-old wife Tuba Erkol on August 18, 2019.

Several times before the murder, Tuba Erkol had lodged a complaint against Bekir Erkol for violence. Thereafter, a restrictive order was issued against Bekir Erkol, but four days after the order was issued, he brutally killed his wife. Bekir Erkol, convicted of murdering his wife and assaulted his wife after a dispute broke out in the house. Meanwhile, Tuba Erkol tried to open the gate by running to save his life, but Berick stabbed her 46 times in the corridor of the house. He then left his daughter in the house and went to his mother's house with 2 sons and surrendered before the police.

After the incident, prosecutors prepared a proposal seeking life imprisonment for Berick Erkol, who killed his wife with demonic emotions. During the court hearing, prosecutors had also claimed that the convict was not eligible to be sentenced in any form. However, on the basis of "unjust provocation," the court later reduced his sentence to 18 years and 4 months. It also based the so-called "good behaviour" of the guilty.
