Three-storey building collapses in Bangalore, rescue operation continues...

A three-storey building under construction collapsed in Pulkeshi Nagar on Wednesday morning. Emergency teams rushed to the spot and rescued seven people. The victims have been transferred to Bourne and Lady Curzon Hospital. As the building collapsed, it also damaged the nearby building, from where two families were also rescued. The team recovered a body and suspected that a family living in the adjacent building was trapped inside.

B.S. Prasad, the chief engineer of the eastern region of the BBMP, said "the incident took place at around 2 p.m. after a four-year-old residential building in which eight families were living collapsed. "The apartment collapsed after the earth collapsed under the floor of the basement," he said. Similarly, the neighbouring under-construction apartment also collapsed.

According to Prasad, two persons have been rescued from the under-construction building. From the residential building, all eight families were rescued. The rescue operation is still going on. Officials are yet to ascertain how many people had stayed in both the buildings. Local police, fire service personnel, NDRF and Karnataka Civil Defence teams are on the spot and are trying to rescue the trapped people.
