Proddatur: Bairagani Dastagiri (42) and Battala Ramalakshumma (33) of Nanganurupalle village of Proddatur zone died due to electric shock. According to rural police and villagers the details are as follows. Dastagiri and Ramalakshumma of Nanganurupalle village in Proddatur region, among others, depend on sheep for their livelihood. During the day they take their cattle to the fields on the outskirts of the village to graze. The animals were taken to the suburb of Regullapalle on Saturday morning. While grazing sheep there, Bairagani Dastagiri and Ramalakshmi went to a nearby groundnut field. Electric fences were erected around the farm. He died on the spot due to that current. It is an offense under government regulations to erect electric fencing on crop fields. The farmers who planted the fencing would go to Jamune early in the morning and cut off the power supply, but locals say the accident happened when Tellerina did not cut off the power supply. On being informed about the matter, Rural SI Arun Kumar went to the spot and investigated. The bodies have been sent to the district government hospital for postmortem. SI said that a case has been registered in this regard.

Dastagiri has been a shepherd for many years. He had no farm and made his living by grazing sheep and goats. He is survived by wife Malleshwari, sons Sunil and Anil and a daughter Kavya. Wife and children are in mourning with the passing away of Dastagiri, who was a great help to the family. Ramalakshma has a son and a daughter named Nagendra and Prasanna with her husband Nagayya. Both the children are studying in Potladurthy Government School. When they learned that their mother had died, the family was in tears.
