The Ministry of Sports across the country is going to set up 1000 Khelo India Centers (KIC) at the district level to help the players. These centres are run either by former champions or by some coach. In this regard, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said, "When we are trying to make India a sports superpower, then it is necessary to ensure that sports become a career option for the player."

An arrangement was made to identify the former champions so that these champions can either open their own academy and operate it or work as coaches in KIC. The first priority will be given to the players who have participated in a recognized international competition under a recognized national association. In the second category, seniors will be national championships or Khelo India Games medalists. In the third category, players who won medals in the National All India University Games will be placed. The fourth category will consist of players representing the state in the Senior National Championship.

14 sports will be taught in KIC which include sports like archery, athletics, boxing, badminton, cycling, fencing, hockey, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. However, it is also expected that at the Khelo India centres, young players will get a chance to practice and learn more about indoor games, because even if the government buys a big ground at the district level it will cost a lot. It is expected that Khelo India Center will be more based on indoor games.
