England's Ian Poulter and Mark Hubbard of America set the pace for good scoring through a brief spell of rain at Hilton Head after the first round of the RBC Heritage USPGA golf tournament. Both Poulter and Hubbard scored 74 under seven. Poulter made birdies from a distance of 31 feet in the 17th hole, from which he has been able to get a joint lead.

Ian Poulter later said, "I have always loved coming here and playing golf." The RBC Heritage tournament is played after the Masters in April but was postponed due to the Covid-19 epidemic. This is the second tournament being played after returning to the PGA Tour. Three-time Major Champion Jordan Spieth collected eight birdies but in the meantime, he also did a triple bogey in the 12th hole. Starting from the tenth hole, Spieth made a comeback by scoring seven birdies in the final nine holes and eventually scored five-under.

However other golfers also performed well. A total of seven players scored six-under 65 while six others scored five-under 66. Colombia's Sebastian Munoz, Norway's Victor Hovland, South Africa's Dylan Fratelli and America's Babe Simpson, Michael Thompson, Bryce Garne, and Ryan Palmer are joint third with six-under 65s.
