MUMBAI: Among the most successful schemes of the Central Government, the Shumar Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has met its target. The government started the scheme on May 1, 2016. In which the target was to provide 50 million gas connections by March 2019. The government later reduced the target to eight crore by 2020. The government achieved this target ahead of time. PM Modi handed over the certificate of new gas connection to eight millionth beneficiary Ayesha Sheikh during an event in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

On getting the new gas connection, Ayesha Sheikh said that getting a new gas connection is nothing less than a celebration and in such a situation what can be less than 'Biryani'. The mother of five children in Ajanta village, collecting dry wood from nearby places to cook food for this daily labourer has become a thing of the past. Ayesha and Rafiq Sheikh of Aurangabad district of Marathwada region have become the eight millionth beneficiaries of the ambitious Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme. Under the scheme, women belonging to below poverty line families get LPG connection.

PM Modi was in the city to address the self-help group women's meeting 'Mahila Saksham Melva' and inaugurate the Aurangabad industrial town spread over an area of 10,000 acres. It is the first green industrial smart city in the country. After getting the certificate, Ayesha said, 'After getting the cylinder and stove, the first thing I will do is cook biryani. I am happy because this new connection will save my hard work. She said that she relied on wood for cooking, which is a very hard work everyday and takes a lot of time. The government had benefited greatly from this scheme in elections. There was good support, especially from rural women.
