New Delhi: The Serum Institute of India (SII) may soon be allowed emergency use of the vaccine in India after the United Kingdom drug regulator MHRA approved the vaccine. Officials at the Serum Institute of India have expressed hope that the vaccine can be approved before Christmas.

The Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency is currently looking at data on the Covid vaccine produced by Oxford and AstraZeneca in the UK. The corona vaccine from Oxford and AstraZeneca is said to be the safest. According to sources, the MHRA may flag off the vaccine before Christmas and only then will India move forward in this matter. The Serum Institute of India, which demands emergency use of the vaccine in India, is required to get the vaccine approved from the UK.

If the vaccine is allowed from the UK, the Serum Institute of India vaccine will be considered extremely safe. An official said the vaccine is yet to be approved in any country and is a sensitive matter. Only once we are sure about the safety, efficacy and immunogenicity of the vaccine, we can give approval.
