Uttarakhand's CM, Pushkar Singh Dhami, unveiled plans to operate 117 modern madrassas under the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, naming them after former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The proposal awaits confirmation from the Waqf Board. Additionally, Uttarakhand Minority Commission Chairman, Dr. RK Jain, urged for a hostel for students at the Bharuwala Madrasa, drawing attention to the need for local district appointments for Minority Department officers instead of central postings, which the CM pledged to address.

During the World Minority Rights Day celebration at the Himalayan Cultural Center in Garhi Cantt, the Uttarakhand Minority Commission and Police Department marked the occasion. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, a guest at the event, announced the initiation of 117 modern madrassas by the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, proposing to dedicate them to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He also highlighted plans to soon implement the Uniform Citizenship Code, emphasizing that the government's aim isn't to suppress any particular group but to safeguard minority interests.

CM Dhami stressed the government's commitment to safeguarding minority interests, citing initiatives like the Hunar Vikas Yojana, aimed at the welfare of minorities. This scheme focuses on providing self-employment and training to underprivileged sections, along with scholarships and interest-free loans for deserving students. Shadab Shams, Chairman of Uttarakhand Waqf Board, stated that the modern madrassas are slated to commence operations in April.

Dr. RK Jain, Chairman of Uttarakhand Minority Commission, highlighted the 11th celebration of Minority Day in the state, emphasizing a public awareness campaign advocating for minority rights. The event witnessed the presence of Vice Chairman of Minority Commission, Sardar Iqbal Singh, Chairman of Madarsa Board, Mufti Shuman Qasmi, Acting Director General of Police, Abhinav Kumar, Secretary JS Rawat, along with members Seema Javed, Deepa Rawat, and others.
