Ukraine-Russia: PM Modi to speak to Zelensky, Putin today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday amid the ongoing confrontation between the two countries, Govt of India sources said.

Since the war began on February 24, when Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi has spoken with both presidents twice.

On February 24th night and March 2nd, the Indian Prime Minister spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As perthe Prime Minister's office, PM Modi reviewed the situation in Ukraine, particularly in Kharkiv, and the two leaders also addressed the safe evacuation of Indian nationals from crisis zones.

On February 26, Prime Minister Modi called with Ukrainian President Zelensky, who updated him on the current war situation in detail. After India abstained during a UN Security Council vote, Zelensky communicated with Prime Minister Modi and requested India's political support at the UNSC.

Meanwhile, tensions have risen in Ukraine as a result of Russia's military intervention, and the government has organised aircraft from neighbouring countries to evacuate Indian students as part of 'Operation Ganga.' The Indian government announced on Sunday that since February 22, almost 16,000 Indian students have been evacuated from Ukraine through planes from Ukraine's neighbouring countries.
