Bhopal: Senior BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh CM Uma Bharti has recently made a statement on non-ban on liquor. In fact, she has warned the government to take to the streets and launch a liquor ban drive if liquor is not banned by January 15 next year. Last Saturday, Uma Bharti said, "BD Sharma and Shivraj Singh said awareness campaign should lead to prohibition. I believe it ends with lipid and not awareness... I give them time till 15th January, till then we will carry out awareness campaigns. After that, I will take to the streets to lead the campaign.''

At the same time, she also said, "After 15th January next year, she will launch a liquor ban drive in Madhya Pradesh.'' However, the former Union Minister said, "This will be a (peaceful) campaign of ours, not a violent agitation. In the meantime, we will take to the streets and demand from the State Government that a liquor ban should be imposed immediately in the state.'' Talking to media persons in Bhopal yesterday, she also said, "Before 15th January, we will also launch a social awareness campaign for de-addiction.''

She said, "Prohibition should and can be done. Other ways to collect revenue can be found. Prohibition in Madhya Pradesh is also easy because both state chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP president Vishnudutt Sharma are able to ban liquor as they are both against alcohol and drugs.''

On the other hand, in the tweet, he said, "I have no qualms about using the word Lath because only a strict law by the government or a powerful campaign of women will lead to prohibition. Alcohol consumption is the main reason for rape, molestation, accidents, diseases in Madhya Pradesh. Sisters and daughters of Madhya Pradesh do not feel safe because of the alcoholics roaming freely on the road, so the prohibition of liquor is very important in a peaceful state like Madhya Pradesh.''
