UNITED NATIONS:  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, UN Secretariat does not take money from the oil and gas industry sector.

Guterres told reporters on Wednesday, "I can assure you that the UN Secretariat does not (accept funding from the oil and gas sector)." "Our orientation has been for the Pension Fund to completely withdraw from the fossil fuel industry, beginning with coal. And, I think they have already completely stopped investing in the global fossil fuel sector." He was quoted by the Xinhua as saying, "And to the (UN) agencies, I strongly propose not to take any contribution from those that we regard to have played the most essential role in the climate change."

Guterres  also urged for taxing oil and gas companies' windfall profits from the present energy crisis.

At the release of the third report from his Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy and Finance regarding the Ukraine conflict, he said, "It is immoral for oil and gas companies to be making record profits from this energy crisis on the backs of the poorest people and communities and at a massive cost to the climate."

He noted that the combined profits of the biggest energy firms in the first quarter of this year were close to USD 100 billion. "I urge all governments to tax these excessive profits and use the funds to support the most vulnerable people through these difficult times," he added.
