TRIPOLI – Stephanie Williams, the UN Secretary-Libya General's Adviser, has urged all parties in Libya to maintain calm on the ground. Williams made her statements during a meeting with Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah in Tripoli, where they reviewed recent events including the House of Representatives' (Parliament's) recent decisions to pass a constitutional revision and name a new prime minister.

"We discussed the current process, and I emphasised the need of all actors and institutions working within the political framework and, above all, maintaining calm on the ground in the interests of Libya's unity and stability," Williams tweeted.

In a separate discussion with Fathi Bashagha, the Prime Minister-designate, Williams emphasised the importance of having free, fair, and inclusive national elections as soon as possible.

On February 10, the House of Representatives unanimously elected former Interior Minister Bashagha to be the country's new Prime Minister. Bashagha stated shortly after the referendum that he is "sure that Dbeibah's government will hand over power and follow the democratic road." Dbeibah, on the other hand, confirmed that his government will stay in power until elections are held, then pass over to an elected government.
