The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) director-general has called for an investigation into the assassination of Indian journalist Buddhinath Jha.
Audrey Azoulay, the Director-General of UNESCO, has called for an investigation into the death of online journalist Buddhinath Jha, also known as Avinash Jha, whose body was discovered on a roadside in Bihar, India, three days after he went missing.
Buddhinath Jha revealed illicit medical clinics and nursing homes through his reports. The journalist, who has been missing since November 9, is said to have received death threats as a result of his investigations. Jha was also a proponent of the right to know.
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization promotes journalist safety through global awareness-raising, capacity-building, and a variety of measures, including the UN Plan of Action on Journalist Safety and the Issue of Impunity.
