UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President calls on Russia and Ukraine to resolve their differences via diplomacy.
President of the UNGA, Abdulla Shahid, has called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and the use of peaceful measures to resolve issues. "I demand an immediate ceasefire, a deescalation of hostilities, and a forceful return to diplomacy and dialogue," UNGA President said in a statement on Friday.
Shahid emphasised that the UN Charter is built on the idea of sovereign equality, and he urged all member states to settle international problems by peaceful ways, according to state media news report.
"I reiterate my plea to all member states to uphold their international law and international humanitarian law commitments," the UNGA president stated. "Safe and unhindered humanitarian access to Ukraine and its people is a priority and an urgent requirement," he said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorised "a special military action" in Donbas on, and Ukraine confirmed that military stations across the country were targeted. As per the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian airfields, command centres, naval bases, and radar stations were among the sites targeted.
