KIEV: According to local media, two explosions were heard in central Kiev, Ukraine's capital, on Friday, as the Russian special military operation against Ukraine entered its second day.
As per reports, citing the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, there was no air raid alarm around the time of the explosions, which the local authorities have yet to corroborate. According to operative information, Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko had just heard two huge explosions, which he later defined as "attacks by our air defences on enemy planes or drones."
After missile debris struck a residential building, Mayor Vitali Klitschko tweeted that three individuals were injured, one of whom was in critical condition. He also shared a photo of a building with a portion of its wall ripped off and emergency personnel on the site.
Russian President Vladimir Putin authorised "a special military action" in Donbas on Thursday, and Ukraine confirmed that military stations across the country were targeted.
As per the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian airfields, command centres, naval bases, and radar stations were among the sites targeted.
