US Congress eyes USD 600-million weapons aid to Ukraine

WASHINGTON: United State House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that US lawmakers want to equip Ukraine with USD600 million in "lethal defence weapons" to assist Kiev defend itself against a Russian military invasion.

According to Us media report, US President Joe Biden announced more economic sanctions on Russia earlier in the day, as well as the deployment of additional US troops to Europe.No US military will be sent into Ukraine,  Biden asserted.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved "a special military operation" in Donbass. Ukraine confirmed that military targets were attacked across the country.

"The occupation of Ukrainian territory is not part of our plans. "We will not impose anything on anyone by force," Putin said in a televised address to the country, citing "fundamental threats" as the reason for the decision "NATO's expansion into Eastern Europe has placed its military infrastructure closer to Russia's borders.
