Ukraine's capital Kyiv was bombarded in the early hours of Friday, with the skies ablaze as Vladimir Putin's tanks came to within 20 miles of Kyiv, as per ereports Daily Mail.

One missile was shot out of the sky by Ukraine's anti-missile defence systems, according to the deputy defence ministry.  Ukraine deputy defence ministry said, another missile hit a residential structure in the city. In a separate incident, a Ukrainian SU-27 fighter was shot down by a surface-to-air missile, according to the Ukrainian government, the reports add.

President Volodymyr Zelensky had raged at Western cowards for failing to help him, saying his country was being "left alone" to confront Russian forces just hours before. The officials have warned that Kyiv would be captured this weekend.

After 137 people were killed on the first day of battle, the president delivered a video address to his country after midnight, calling his dead countrymen "heroes" and vowing to stay until the terrible end. He said, "People are being killed, and peaceful cities are being turned into military targets. It's a heinous crime that will never be forgiven. "We have been left to protect our country on our own. Who is willing to join us in the fight? I don't think I've seen anyone.

"Who is willing to ensure Ukraine's NATO membership? Everyone is frightened." The adversary has already invaded Kyiv, he declared, and he asked locals to remain careful and follow curfew regulations, knowing that he was "target number one," according to report. US security sources fear that the Ukrainian capital is expected to be surrounded by Russian forces this weekend, effectively crippling the country's defence.
