New York: US President Joe Biden said the US was consulting India on the Ukraine crisis, but said the question of being in "sync" on dealing with Russia was still being worked out.

When asked if India, as a significant defence partner of the US, was totally in sync with Washington on Russia and Ukraine policy, he added on Thursday at a news conference, "We are in consultation with India on Thursday, (but) we haven't settled it completely."

"This is going to inflict great damage on the Russian economy, both immediately and over time," Biden said during a press conference announcing a series of economic and geopolitical sanctions against Russia.

In retribution for Russian President Vladimir Putin's early Thursday morning decision to invade Ukraine, Biden said the US and its allies will limit Moscow's capacity to participate in global trade by denying it access to dollars, euros, pounds, and yen.

He stated that Russian forces assaulted vital facilities in Ukraine and that Russian troops entered the country and engaged Ukrainian military "Putin is the aggressor in this situation. Putin selected this conflict. And now he and his country will have to pay the price." Biden's sanctions, which were implemented in collaboration with partners, are aimed at Russia's banking sector, high-tech industry, and defence.
