Union Budget 2021: FM Nirmala Sitharaman Proposes Rise In FDI Limit In Insurance From 49% To 74%

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has begun presenting the Union Budget 2021-22 in Parliament.  This budget comes after a difficult year for the economy due to the corona pandemic which led to job lost and closure of many businesses. FM has announced many schemes in various sectors. In order to enhance their expansion and growth of the insurance sector,  The finance minister announced to hike the FDI limit in Insurance from 49% to 74%. 

FM said that FDI in insurance sector proposed to be hiked to 74% from 49% now. FM  said that this budget rests on six pillars – from healthcare to infrastructure.

The FM also  announced a total spend of around Rs 2 lakh crore on healthcare.The government has announced a new central healthcare scheme to strengthen the country's healthcare infrastructure over the next six years.  In her speech, Sitharaman said that  New centrally sponsored scheme PM Aatmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana to be launched with an outlay of Rs 64,180 crore over 6 years. The key interventions under PM Aatmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana would include, Support for Health and Wellness Centres, Setting up Integrated Public Health labs in all districts, Critical care hospital blocks and Strengthening of NCDC.
