CHENNAI: The Southern Railway has been allocated Rs 7,134.56 crore for the financial year 2022-23, with an additional Rs 1,064.34 crore in Extra Budgetary Resources (EBR) received, according to officials.
Rs 1,445.85 crore has been set aside for doubling projects, Rs 346.80 crore for gauge conversion projects, and Rs 59 crore for new lines out of the total budget.
For the fiscal year 2022-23, a total of Rs 327.77 crore has been set aside for passenger amenities, according to Southern Railway.
Southern Railway has been allocated Rs 189.76 crore for various signal and telecom projects, with a focus on spreading indigenously built 'Kavach' anti-collision devices across the network.
In terms of project spending in Tamil Nadu, Southern Railway said 25 new line/gauge conversion projects with a total cost of Rs 28,307 crore and a total length of 3,077 km are in various phases of planning and execution. The budget allocation for railways in Tamil Nadu for the fiscal year 2022-23 is Rs 3,865 crore, which is 340 percent greater than the average outlay from 2009 to 2014.
In Tamil Nadu, a total of Rs 303.42 crore has been been aside for various railway electrification projects.
