Union cabinet approves revised cost estimate of North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Revised Cost Estimate (RCE) of North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP). The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 6,700 crores. The Cabinet committee meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Home Minister Amit Shah took to twitter to share the information. He wrote in a tweet, "Cabinet has approved the Revised Cost Estimate of North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) at an estimated cost of ₹6,700 crores.This decision reiterates PM @NarendraModi’s firm commitment towards the overall economic development of our North East region."


This project would be a be a major step towards the economic development of the Northeastern region through the strengthening of intra-state transmission and distribution systems. The project aims the total economic development of the Northeastern region and to strengthen the intra-state transmission and distribution infrastructure in the Northeastern region. This scheme is being implemented through POWERGRID, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power in association with six beneficiary states of Northeast including  Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.  The scheme is aim to be commissioned by December 2021.
