New Delhi: On Saturday, the Union Cabinet was learnt to have been briefed about the state of affairs in Ukraine and efforts being taken to get Indian nationals back from the war-hit country. The Cabinet Committee on Security is also said to have met on Saturday in the midst of the crisis in Ukraine following Russia's attack.

Members of the Union Cabinet were briefed on the growing situation in Ukraine and the administration's round-the-clock efforts to repatriate Indians, according to government sources.

The government is bringing Indians back to India via special aircraft from neighbouring countries such as Romania and Hungary. Since the Ukrainian airspace is blocked to civilian flights, Indians are being carried to Ukrainian border areas before being flown to India from the bordering country.

An Air India flight from Romania to Mumbai is carrying Indians from Ukraine. In the next days, many more evacuation flights are scheduled to take place.
