New Delhi: Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, will preside over a meeting of the National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) in New Delhi on Friday.

The NSAC is the apex council that sets policies for port-led development initiatives like Sagarmala and monitors their implementation. The committee will review the Sagarmala programme, as well as the development of port-linked road and rail connectivity, the development of Floating jetties, and inland waterways, among other things on the agenda.

The meeting will also discuss the holistic development of coastal communities through a new project called "Sagartat Samriddhi Yojana."

Sagarmala is a national programme intended at speeding India's economic development by utilising the country's 7,500-kilometer-long coastline and 14,500-kilometer-long network of potentially navigable rivers.

Major Ports, Central Ministries, State Maritime Boards, State Governments, and other agencies are implementing Sagarmala projects. Currently, 202 projects totaling 99 thousand 281 crore rupees have been finished, while two hundred sixteen projects worth two lakh 12 thousand crore rupees are being implemented. According to the Ministry, 384 projects worth Rs. 2 lakh 37 thousand crore are in various phases of development.

Nitin Gadkari, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, and Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy will all attend the NSAC meeting.
