Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, has advocated for a faster transition to renewable energy. "Rather than delaying the global economy's decarbonisation, now is the time to accelerate the energy transition to a renewable energy future," the UN Secretary-General said in a video message to a Geneva press conference announcing a new report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on Monday (IPCC).

According to the IPCC, if global warming is not controlled, some of the world's most densely populated areas would become uninhabitable, as reported by the media. The 3,600-page study focuses on climate change's practical effects on humans and nature.

The senior UN spokesperson confirmed, "Today's IPCC report is an atlas of human misery and a harsh indictment of failed climate leadership." Global average temperatures have already risen by 1.1 degrees Celsius, or two degrees Fahrenheit, according to the UN head, "leaving perilously little room" to reach the 2015 Paris climate agreement's goals.

"I'm urging rich nations, multilateral development banks, private financiers, and others to build coalitions to assist big emerging economies in ending coal use," he stated. "The Glasgow commitment on adaptation funding is clearly inadequate to handle the difficulties confronting countries on the frontlines of the climate crisis," Guterres said.
