Islands of India are a very important part of Indian Tourism.

St. Mary Island: it is a group of small beautiful islands situated to the north of Malpe Beach near Udupi, Karnataka, also known as Coconut Island. The island has two beautiful beaches and crystallized basalt rock formations which were created at the time Madagascar Island got separated from India. These unique rock formations scattered throughout the island giving a special landscape to the place. Watching the sunset standing on the crystalline rocks is one of the most alluring experiences on the island. One side of the island has a beach that is made entirely of shells, which is why it is known as Shell Beach. Here, you will find tons of shells and no sand at all.

The only way to get to St Mary’s Island is by ferry or boat. There are two ways to get to the island, from the fishing harbour in Malpe and from Malpe Beach itself. Ferries to and from the island operate from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM, the same time as the island. The closest airport is in Mangalore which is about 60 km away from Udupi.

October to January would be the best time to visit St Mary’s Island as the weather is pleasant and tolerable during this period. This is the optimal time to lounge on the shores or go exploring. You could also visit the island during summer however; the area can get quite hot and uncomfortable. While it is not advisable to visit the island in the monsoons as the seas are dangerously rough at this time, this warning is moot as the island is closed to visitors during this period June to September.

Kavvayi Island: it is located near Payyannur is the third largest backwater in Kerala and the largest one in north Kerala. The Kavvayi Kayal(Backwaters) is dotted with several small and large islands.  Kavvayi, has been recreated into a beautiful island. Spread over the districts of Kannur and Kasaragod, the Kavvayi islands, also called Kavvayi Kayal) are the largest backwater island group in north Kerala. Kavvayi is the islands covered with lush green vegetation, coconut groves, and mangrove forests.  The backwaters and mangrove forests serve as habitats for various marine and avian species. It is home to several migratory birds, including rare and endangered species.

The best time to visit Kavvayi Kayal is from October to March when humidity is at its low and it isn't raining as hard. The weather around this time is very cool and pleasant, and ideal for all the nature walks adventure sports and boating trips and picnics.One must avoid the monsoon months of June, July and August, as the average rainfall that Kavvayi receives is over 3578 mm. The summer months of May and June are very humid, and hot. The average annual temperature of Kavvayi is 27.2 °C.

Divar Island: It is a little piece of heaven hidden in the lush greenery of the outdoors. This island, which is only connected to Old Goa by ferry, is known for its stunning natural surroundings, calm, and serenity. The region, which is referred as a "village stuck in time," is yet untouched and untapped by tourism or commercialization because it is cut off from city life. Divar Island is ringed by lush paddy fields and is populated with old cottages constructed in the Portuguese architectural style. This location offers the contrasted calm and environment to the wanderers that makes them desire to just explore it, in contrast to the boisterous and hippy party culture of Goa. The name "divar" comes from the Konkani word "dipavati," which means "Small Island.” The term is pronounced as ‘divaddi’. Although Divar Island hardly has any particular sightseeing spots, the innate beauty and charm of the narrow winding roads, the tiny tea stalls and overall aura will make you want never to leave the island.

Beyt Dwarka Island: it is a small river island which was the main port in the region before the development of Okha. It is located at the mouth of the Gulf of Kutch; the island is enclosed by a few temples, white sand beaches and coral reefs, which is the prime reason for the tourist activity in the region. Among the several activities available at the beach to engage the tourists, the most popular ones include dolphin spotting, marine excursions, beach camping and picnics etc. The island also holds a significant mythological and religious significance. It is believed to be the home of Lord Krishna when he was the king of Dwarka. It was here where Lord Krishna exchanged the bags of rice with his friend Sudama - as the story goes. Therefore, this place is also visited by several devotees for a pilgrimage as well.

The best time to visit Beyt Island is during the winter season, i.e. between the months of October and March. The area does not experience an extreme winter season and hence the trip will be pleasant and comfortable. Average temperatures at the time are around 20-22 degrees Celsius. Summer season and the monsoons are best if avoided as the region is extremely hot and stuffy during the summers and extremely humid and unpleasant during the rainy season.

Quibble Island: it is the largest of the four tiny islands formed in the salt water lagoon. The island is famous for the large European cemetery situated in the centre. This cemetery is believed to have been built here after a battle was fought between French-led Indian soldiers and Nawab forces. Quibble Island abuts the southern stretch of Marina Beach. The tranquil place boasts of utter serenity along with the soothing sound of the waves crashing against the shores.

The best time or season to visit Quibble Island is winter season and monsoon season. The favorable months for the travelers to visit the island are between October and March. The climate remains nice during these months.
