Lucknow: The impact of the Karnataka hijab controversy is also being seen in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. On Sunday (20 February 2022), the issue of hijab got heated in Kanpur during the third phase of voting in the state. In fact, at the Aryanagar polling booth in Kanpur city, the employees asked Muslim women to remove their masks and cast their votes. Due to this Muslim voters started creating ruckus.

According to the report, the incident took place at Hudson School polling booth in Aryanagar in the district. Muslim women who came here to cast their votes were asked to take off their hijab and niqab and go inside to cast their votes. After this these women started protesting. One of these women said that she would show her face, but would not take off her hijab under any circumstances, whether the vote was cast or it was closed. The Muslim woman protested against the removal of the hijab and said, 'We are being asked to remove the mask and go inside to vote.'

The woman said, why should we show you our face? We'll show the face inside. You are all non-male. In Islam, it is not permissible for women to show their nails to non-men. Shall we show you our face? We will show our face inside in front of women. Please tell that due to this uproar by the Muslims, the polling at that polling booth was also stopped for some time. However, later the police team that reached the spot somehow persuaded the Muslim women to restart the voting process.
