Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Police recovered the body of Aditya Vardhan Singh, the Deputy Director of the state’s Health Department, who drowned while bathing in the River Ganga in Kanpur on August 31. Singh's body was retrieved from the Ganga barrage by divers.

On the day of the incident, Singh had been at the river with his friend Pradeep Tiwari. He slipped into a deep section of the water, prompting Tiwari to seek help from local divers. However, the divers initially demanded Rs 10,000 before agreeing to attempt a rescue. After the money was transferred to a shopkeeper’s account, the divers began their efforts, but Singh had already drowned by that time.

Despite extensive search efforts by the police and rescue teams, Singh's body was not immediately found. His family has announced that after the postmortem, his body will be transported to his paternal village for the final rites.
