Bangalore: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar addressed media reports on Sunday that suggested he would be meeting high-profile US leaders during his visit to the United States. Shivakumar clarified that his trip to Washington was solely for personal reasons and involved traveling with his family. He explicitly denied any scheduled meetings with former US President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris.

In his statement, Shivakumar emphasized that the reports claiming such meetings were incorrect and that he would be in the US until September 15 solely for a private visit. To further dispel any misunderstandings, he also sent a letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge regarding his travel plans and released a copy of this letter publicly.

Interestingly, Shivakumar’s visit to Washington overlaps with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s tour of the US. Rahul Gandhi arrived in Texas on Sunday for a three-day visit and is scheduled to hold various meetings and interactions in Washington and Dallas, including at the University of Texas.

Indian Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda confirmed that Rahul Gandhi's trip is not in his official capacity but is being conducted at an "individual level."
