Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police has demoted Deputy Superintendent Kripa Shankar Kannaujiya to the rank of constable, three years after he was caught in a compromising situation with a female constable at a hotel.
Kripa Shankar Kanaujia, who previously held the position of Circle Officer (CO) Bighapur in Unnao, has now been reassigned to the 26th Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion in Gorakhpur. His troubles began in July 2021 when he went missing after taking leave. Kanaujia had requested leave for family reasons but instead checked into a hotel in Kanpur with a female constable. He turned off both his private and official mobile phones, which aroused suspicion.
Worried about his sudden disappearance, Kanaujia’s wife contacted the SP Unnao for help. The situation escalated when a surveillance team discovered that his mobile network had gone silent after he reached the Kanpur hotel. Unnao Police quickly located the hotel and found Kanaujia and the female constable together. CCTV footage captured their entry, providing key evidence for the investigation.
Following the incident, a report was submitted to the government. After a thorough review, the government recommended demoting Kripa Shankar Kanaujia to the rank of constable. ADG Administration promptly issued an order to implement this decision, marking the downfall of the once-prominent officer.
