Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on Friday at the residence of land dealer Kamlesh Kumar in Ranchi as part of an investigation into a land scam. Kamlesh Kumar is allegedly involved in acquiring land through fraudulent means using fake documents in areas like BAU and Kanke in Ranchi. Shekhar Kushwaha, associated with the syndicate involved in the scam, provided information to ED about Kamlesh Kumar's activities.

During the raid at Kamlesh Kumar's flat located at Astro Green in Chandni Chowk on Kanke Road, ED recovered Rs. 1 crore in cash and 100 live cartridges. The raid, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, also yielded significant evidence including documents related to land transactions. Subsequently, ED extended the raid to Kamlesh's residence on Cheshire Home Road later in the evening, which was ongoing at the time of reporting.

Following the recovery of live cartridges, ED's Assistant Director Devvrat Jha wrote a letter to DGP Ajay Kumar Singh, urging action in the matter. ED handed over the recovered cartridges to Ranchi Police around six in the evening and instructed them to register a case under the Arms Act based on ED's complaint.

Kamlesh Kumar has a history of involvement in similar cases and had previously been jailed for illegal occupation of BAU land in Kanke. He is also implicated in fraudulent land deals, allegedly selling non-cultivated land using manipulated documents, including transactions with police officers of the state. Notably, he was involved in a case with former DGP DK Pandey, among others. Additionally, a fraud case against Kamlesh is registered at Gonda police station. ED also gathered evidence from mobile phone chats linking Kamlesh with Priyaranjan Sahay, Shekhar Kushwaha, and other members of the syndicate involved in forging land documents. Prior to his involvement in the land business, Kamlesh Kumar had a background in media.
