A priest from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, was beaten to death last week for having meat and alcohol on the temple premises. Three people have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the crime.
According to the report, On July 7 when a local, Sarjit Singh, lodged a missing person’s report at Amaria police station about Baba Rishigiri alias Madanlal, who lived at the Mahadev Sthan (temple) outside Navadia Jithnia village.
After which police started investigation into the matter and found a CCTV footage, in which the priest was last seen with a local named Nanhe and Lalaram. During interrogation, Nanhe revealed that he along with two other accused, Dhanraj and Mukhiya had thrashed him to death.
The alleged later revealed to the police that Baba Rishigiri used to drink liquor and eat meat on the temple premises. We had many times told him to not to do so in the temple premises and also had forboidden him in the past but he refused. After which we had planned and ordered meat and liquor for Baba. Soon after we had our fill, a quarrel broke out, and we started hitting Baba.
The police is now looking into the matter and are interrogating all three of them.
