Melbourne: A 28-year-old student from Agra in Uttar Pradesh has been fatally attacked in Sydney, Australia. Police officials have said that the attacker stabbed him 11 times with a knife while walking on the road late at night. The student's condition is still critical. He sustained serious injuries on his face, chest and abdomen. Police have arrested the accused. On the other hand, his parents are still trying to get a visa to go to Australia. They have also sought assistance from the central government.
According to the report, 28-year-old Shubham Garg, who was pursuing PhD from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, was attacked on October 6. His parents, who live in Agra in UP, are trying to get a visa to visit Australia. Shubham went to Australia for further studies after graduating from IIT Madras on September 1. According to Australian media reports, Shubham was walking off the road at around 10.30 pm on October 6. Meanwhile, a man hit him and asked for money by showing a knife. When Shubham refused, the assailant stabbed him multiple times with a knife and fled leaving Shubham in a pool of blood.
Shubham sustained multiple injuries on his face, chest and abdomen, reports said, adding that even in an injured condition, he managed to move to a nearby house and was rushed to a hospital with the help of some people. At the same time, the police have arrested a 27-year-old man on charges of attempt to murder in the case. According to reports, Shubham was not aware of the attacker. Sources said there was no evidence that it was a racist attack.
