Lucknow: Farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district are suffering due to a lack of rain. There is a belief that by throwing mud on a person or bathing him, Lord Indra becomes happy and then it rains. To try out the same way, women from the Pipardeura area of the city bathed Sadar MLA Jai Mangal Kannaujia and municipality president Krishna Gopal Jaiswal with mud on Tuesday night.

Regarding this, the women said that now Indra Bhagwan will be happy and there will be rain. At the same time, Sadar MLA Jai Mangal Kannaujia said after being bathed in the mud that all the people are disturbed in the scorching heat. He said that due to the lack of rain, the seedlings are drying up. The old tradition has been that when someone is bathed in the mud, Lord Indra will be happy and it will rain. Members Sinod Kumar, Gopal Sharma and Hari Singh were also present on the occasion.

Let me tell you that there are 72 so far in Uttar Pradesh. There have been only 3 millimetres of rainfall, which is 57 per cent less than normal. 70 out of 75 districts in the state have received below-average rainfall this time, which is causing a crisis of spoilage on the Kharif crop. Though the air quality in most of the cities of UP is in a good category, farmers are suffering due to a lack of rain and they are worried about the loss of their crops.
