For European markets, Hyundai has released the first facelift version of its electric SUV Ioniq 5. A year after its worldwide debut, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will get a bigger battery pack to boost its electric range, among other changes. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 debuted in February last year. It is Hyundai's first vehicle to be built on the company's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is also expected to arrive in Indian markets shortly, as the Korean carmaker wants to launch fully electric vehicles in the nation in the coming days.

The 77.4kWh battery pack in the facelift version of the Ioniq 5 replaces the 72.6 kWh battery of the first generation vehicle. The electric SUV's range will be extended due to the upgraded battery pack. According to the WLTP cycle, the new battery is intended to boost the range of the Ioniq 5's long-range rear-wheel-drive to about 500 kilometres on a single charge, up from the current range of roughly 485 kilometres.

The upgraded mechanism of active thermoregulation of the battery in the 2023 Ioniq 5 will also boost the battery's efficiency. "Ioniq 5 has proven to be incredibly successful in the 12 months since its launch, both in terms of sales and brand building," said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe. The category is becoming more competitive, so we'll be adding new features to maintain our position as the automobile industry's technology leader."

The addition of video-based smart interior and exterior mirrors is another significant feature in the new Ioniq 5. For the first time, a central screen is used instead of a saloon mirror. A second camera is located behind the spoiler visor on the back door. The Digital Centre Mirror (DCM) improves visibility by offering a panoramic, unobstructed rear-facing view of the car.
