New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday informed the country's largest court that it is not possible to suspend the civil services preliminary exams 2020. UPSC told the Supreme Court that all logistic arrangements have already been made for the examination, so it is not possible to postpone the examination. The next hearing in the case will be on September 30.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar asked UPSC to put the facts in the affidavit and file the report by September 29. It may be mentioned that the civil service is going to be on the initial 4th of October. A plea filed in the Supreme Court seeking postponement of the same was heard for a while today. In which UPSC said that the preliminary examination includes the recruitment process for many important services, so it cannot be postponed.
The petition filed in the Supreme Court sought to avert the UPSC Civil Services preliminary examination 2020 due to the on going pandemic. In the last hearing, the Apex court had asked the petitioners to give a copy of the petition to UPSC and the centre. About 6 lakh candidates are expected to appear in the UPSC preliminary examination this year, which will be held at various examination centres in 72 cities of the country. The examination was scheduled for May 31, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. Later, the new date of examination was announced on 4th October.
